Create a carnival booth with games and treats for the children staying in our shelter. Bring your own table and materials. The carnival is on Saturday, October 27th from 10am-12pm. Set up is from 9-10am. Contact Jerri Alvarado to sign up.
Our kitchen runs from 5:30 am until 7 pm each day. We are always in need of individuals to help us with food preparation. A part of this includes processing fresh food donations that are picked up each day, planning and preparing meals three times a day, dishwashing and cleanup of the kitchen after meals are served.
This is a great individual or group activity. Breakfast is served Monday through Friday at 6 am. Volunteers will help serve meals to BHC residents and families as well as community individuals who come to BHC for breakfast.
Saturday or Sunday Hot Breakfast:
Great service activity for groups! Hot breakfast is served on Saturday morning at 6:30 am and Sunday mornings at 6:30 am. Volunteers can help prepare and serve breakfasts to the residents of BHC and community homeless individuals as well.
Sack lunches are also needed on a daily basis. Volunteers can purchase the fixings and prepare (at home or at BHC) 20 sack lunches, and drop them off in the evening. Staff distributes the lunches in
the morning for clients to take with them as they leave for day. Lunches generally include a sandwich, wrap, or soup, with a snack (granola, nuts, string cheese, hard boiled eggs, etc.) with a drink such as bottled water and a piece of fruit.
This type of volunteer assignment works best with a group of 4 – 6 people, but no more than 10 (i.e. families, friends, co-workers, church groups). The meal leader should coordinate his/her own group of volunteers. We serve dinner nightly to our clients and community homeless individuals from 4- 6 pm.
Interested in volunteering with your family? Many BHC volunteer opportunities are great for families. Kids have a great time playing games with guests and helping serve meals. Kids ages 14 or older may accompany their parents to volunteer at our facility.
The donations warehouse is a great place to volunteer your time if you like to work outside and interact with the community. The warehouse at BHC is a very busy place with donations from the community arriving throughout the day. Volunteer opportunities in the warehouse include greeting and assisting members of the community with donations, cleaning and sorting donations, fixing and preparing food baskets given to members of the community who are needy.
